What is a Refractive Errors?

Service Image

Refractive errors are common visual issues that occur when the eye is not able to focus light on the retina properly, leading to blurred vision. The most common types include myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), astigmatism (abnormal corneal curvature) & presbyopia (ageing-related inability to focus on near objects). Refractive errors can occur at all ages & can hinder everyday activities such as reading, driving or using electronic devices. Refractive errors can be easily corrected with contact lenses or surgical methods like LASIK or glasses & thus vision becomes clear & comfortable.

Prevention & Precaution Tips for Refractive Errors

  • Regular eye check-ups to identify changes early)
  • Corrective eyeglasses or contact lenses as prescribed
  • Limit extended screen time & maintain good posture
  • Use sufficient light while reading or working
  • Encourage outdoor activity for children to help prevent myopia progression
  • Encourage a healthy diet rich in vitamins for eye health

Diagnosis & Treatment for Refractive Error

  • Complete eye exam with visual acuity & refraction tests
  • Prescription glasses or contact lenses to correct vision
  • LASIK or other refractive surgeries using lasers for permanent correction
  • Orthokeratology (overnight wear of special contact lenses to reshape the cornea)
  • Routine monitoring to track changes & update prescriptions as needed
