A cataract is a very common eye disease in which the natural lens of the eye becomes cloudy thus resulting in blurred or misty vision. In a normal situation, the lens focuses light onto the retina so that
we can see clearly but with cataracts, the lens becomes cloudy & cannot focus light onto the retina thus making reading, driving or even facial recognition challenging.
Cataracts can develop slowly over time with ageing but can also be caused by injury as well as certain medical conditions such as diabetes or long-term use of certain medications.
Luckily, cataracts can be effectively treated with modern surgical methods, restoring clear vision & improving quality of life.
